Equipment

  • cutting board & sharp knife
  • fine grater/zester
  • sauce pan
  • potato masher
  • nut bag (or cheese cloth)
  • mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • ½ cup ginger - grated
  • 2 pears - sliced
  • 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  • Slice 2 pear into small pieces, discarding the core. Peel and grate ½ cup of fresh ginger.
  • Add ginger and pear to a sauce pan with ½ cup of water. Simmer on low for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, use a potato masher to mash the pear as much as you can.
  • Add 2 tbsp. of sugar. Stir and allow to simmer for 5 more minutes.
  • Place pear-ginger mixture into a container and refrigerate for about 15 minutes so it will be cool enough to handle. Once cooled, either use cheesecloth or (my preferred method) a nut bag to squeeze the syrup out of the mixture. Refrigerate until used.

Notes

Ginger-pear cocktail syrup will last for up to 2 weeks when refrigerated. You can also freeze it and keep it for at least 3-4 months if stored in an airtight container.
